well im a junior in high school and i loveeeeeeee taking pictures and i think this is something i want to major in in college[photography]. But i want to take professional-looking pictures ya know maybe start a lil buisness since im unemployed and alot of my friends want some senior pictures for next year since the school charge so much. Well i have a pretty good camera, canon powershot a620, and i was wondering is there any tips for me to take professional looking pictures! I lost the manuel to this camera and it has so many features i know i can use to take good pictures! Here is my flickr profile. I started it yesterday.

The first thing I would do is to get the manual for the camera. You might be able to download it online for free.
The next thing I would do is to get some books on photography. There are lots of them availale, and they will show you how to take certain pictures under various conditions and how they might have been processed afterwards.
I noticed two things about your photos. The first is that you need to learn a bit better how to use light. The first photo is really washed out, and in some later ones, parts of your model disappear in darkness.
Another thing that I noticed is your photos are all head-on. Try taking photos from different angles and see what hapens. Bring in light from different angles as well.
Take a look at some photographs taken by professional photographers and skilled amateurs at various photography sites as well for some ideas.

another good thing you could invest in is learning how to use photoshop and always think of unusual angles and always look at the shapes the objects create in your pictures.
The Powershot A620 is a decent camera, and a professional could probably get decent results from it. But it is not suited to be the ideal portrait camera due to the small sensor and lens litmitations. If your friends are not picky, you might be able to give them some pictures they would like. I doubt they will look professional, though.
Start by getting a book or two on beginning photography and the camera manual. Learn what the terms are and how to access the features on your camera. Learn about posing and light and composition. Your photos on Flickr are a start, but they look purely novice point and mash the button. To make senior portraits, you will have to step it up a notch or more, particularly if you want someone to pay for them. And you will need to start a portfolio. None of your posted images are remotely nearing portfolio material. You can learn and then practice on your friends. Good luck.
