I don’t know how old you are, but I am 30 and I just entered photography school. If you want a career in photography, my advice is to get a degree. Go to all the conferences/workshops you can, read all the photo mags & books you can get your hands on! My favorite photo mags are Professional Photographer and Popular Photography & Imaging. Read, read, read! And lots of practice of course.

you cant really get INTO photography more.
you can read books, articles, take classes, anything.
but your real inspiration comes from you
First have very deep pockets. Pro level digital camera body – $3000 to $25000. Lenses = Avg $ = $1000 to $5000, plan on at least 5. Misc packs, filters, tripods, ball heads, etc = $3000 to $5000.
Second fine the best training program available in your local area, this could be a four year college degree or a private training program. Not cheap, expect to pay for what you get.
Have lots of patience – Photography is a dog eat dog profession. There are photographers on every street corner. You need to build your portfolio in your specialty and then figure out your marketing plan. I think you will find that marketing will be your biggest challege.
Lots of Luck.
