What’s a good Digital SLR camera for a beginning portrait photographer?

Question by Kayte: What’s a good Digital SLR camera for a beginning portrait photographer?
I want a camera that’s under 0 That will take great portraits. I’m going to take photography classes in the fall, so I’d like a better camera. Meanwhile I’ve been taking portraits for people with a point & shoot. I’d prefer Nikon or Canon, but preferably Canon. Any photography tips are appreciated also!

how do I make a high resolution picture into a lower resolution?

Question by JordanMR: how do I make a high resolution picture into a lower resolution?
I’ve got a really nice picture at an insanely high resolution. The resolution is so high that it doesn’t display very well as my background (Windows Vista). How can I reduce the actual size of this photo (without cropping portions of it out) from 3566×2232 to something more manageable like 1440×900? Is this even possible? Is this the best solution?

I am NOT looking for general photography tips. Do not give them to me.

Wanting to start photography?

Question by pikester666: Wanting to start photography?
Ever since I had the chance to take photo in high school, I’ve always wanted to. But my parents insist that I take more Math/Science courses instead… So I’m planning to get a camera and try to learn photography behind my parent’s back. So I’ve got a couple of questions:

What tips can you give me on taking beautiful photography? Any interesting techniques that you use? Thanks! :)?

Question by Blackcatofdoom!: What tips can you give me on taking beautiful photography? Any interesting techniques that you use? Thanks! :) ?
I am just beginning to look into the art of photography – it has always interested me, but there is obviously a lot of skill behind the work – To those of you who have specific ideas and techniques on how to enhance the quality of your photos (when taking the picture, not like photo shop or Gimp) please, enlighten me! :D What kind of things make a good photo, what angles, flash or no flash? (etc.)

Thanks for anything you are willing to contribute!
Ps. I can’t travel much, nor can I afford an amazing camera, necessarily. I’m only fourteen. :P

Tips for beginning to do freelance event/portrait photography? 10 Points!?

Question by Tara: Tips for beginning to do freelance event/portrait photography? 10 Points!?
I’m currently a junior in college working on my BFA in photography. I haven’t got into studio lighting yet, so I am short that skill… but I’ve been doing a little freelance stuff lately for friends and relatives like engagement parties and senior pictures and the results have come out rather well, they have been very happy with the work… so it’s encouraged me to maybe get a little more serious about it and trying to make some more money out of it. I shoot with a 5D and currently only have the 18-55mm lens that I got with it because I can’t afford anything else, but I’ve been thinking about renting something else out. Also just ordered a portable reflector.

I just want some helpful advice about starting out doing this. Basic equipment necessary, etiquette, pricing, advertising stuff like that. Like a little mini starters guide. I’d really appreciate it, thanks!
Also interested in doing some music photography.
Yeah I didn’t mean to type 18-55 I was thinking of my old camera.

Where In Las Vegus would be be oportunities to take Tourist Photographs or Videos?

Question by spaceshotx7: Where In Las Vegus would be be oportunities to take Tourist Photographs or Videos?
I kinda feel that there isn’t that may places in Las Vegus where you can take tourist Photographs or videos. I feel many attractions seem to restrict tourist photography, Including Museums, Shows, casinos, etc. That means photography is limited in Las Vegus. Do you have any photography tips, as well as a list of attractions or places where you can take vacation photographs?
